Move the United Nations to foil terrorists

To the editor:

I have become concerned with security of the U.S. and particularly New York City and Washington, D.C.

It appears likely that Iran will become a nuclear power. Even if they don’t develop a nuclear bomb, they will have an ample supply of radioactive material. Knowing their involvement with jihad organizations throughout the world, and we can assume also in the United States, I fear that they will provide those seeking acclaim in the militant Muslim world with nuclear material to be used as a dirty bomb if not as an atomic bomb.

With the United Nations in our city and the diplomatic privileges extended to member states, we will face a new threat. The threat is that some Muslim state will use its diplomatic corps, or some Muslims will usurp diplomatic privileges to aid jihadis in carrying out a terror attack.

The damage that might be inflicted is mind-boggling. Imagine if the nineteen 9/11 attackers had taken suitcases of radioactive material on the planes they commandeered. To expect our law enforcement agencies to protect us from these mad men is to court disaster.

To my mind the advent of a nuclear Iran changes the security situation everywhere and in the name of security we should move the U.N. out of New York City. We might also consider asking those countries with significant numbers of Muslim fundamentalists to remove diplomatic immunity from their diplomats in the United States.

The threat of one of their planes flying into a U.S. airport should be taken seriously. I call on our senators and congressman to raise the issues addressed in this letter with our Homeland Security Department.

The security measures taken to date have not prevented terrorists from attacking England, Spain, India, and many other countries. Before the advent of a nuclear Iran, the damage they could inflict was great but limited. Now their ability to do harm has been increased by more than ten-thousand-fold. If we ignore the change brought about by having nuclear material in the hands of those that hate us and are anxious to die doing us harm would be the height of folly.
