Pool party

Riverdale Neighborhood House, located at 5521 Mosholu Ave., will hold a pool party for families with toddlers from 4 to 7:30 p.m.

Attendees should meet at the RNH Family Center, in the center’s main building.

Kabbalat Shabbat

Riverdale Temple, located at 4545 Independence Ave., will host a participatory monthly service, led by Rabbi Judith Lewis and Cantor Leslie Friedlander, at 7 p.m.

Families of all ages are welcome. The Junior Choir will also sing during the service.

Afterward there will be a Shabbat dinner. Participants should bring a potluck beverage or dessert. The temple will provide the main course and side dishes.

The event is free, but a donation is requested.

Grow tricks

Horticultural Interpreter Charles Day will share ways to grow arugula and mustard greens in containers at Wave Hill, located at West 249th Street and Independence Avenue, at 1 p.m.

Professional chef and garden guide Pam Carey will also prepare an early summer salad. The event is free with admission to the grounds.

Photo exhibition

The College of Mount St. Vincent, located at 6301 Riverdale Ave., will show photographs by alumnus Shane Strassberg in the Elizabeth Seton Library from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Saturday, June 6 from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Mr. Strassberg, who joined the Marines in 2003, took photographs chronicling his time in the Middle East and at home. His battalion was deployed to Iraq in July 2004 and helped secure election locales.

During his second tour, from March to September 2006, Mr. Strassberg patrolled several Iraqi cities and helped build the country’s police force. When he returned home, he actively pursued a career in photography. He currently works at Yonkers Raceway as a photographer in their broadcast department.
