Teen collars thief
1.A 17-year-old boy chased down and caught a thief who had allegedly just broken into his dad’s car on the 80 block of Terrace View Avenue on June 5 at about 10:30 a.m., police said. The teen heard a smash, looked outside, and saw a man breaking into the car before sprinting after him, police said. He caught the accused 31-year-old thief in possession of a GPS, tape recorder, phone charger and other items from his father’s car, police said. Cops arrived and took the man to jail on a grand larceny charge. The alleged perpetrator has been arrested 29 times since 2002, with most of those arrests occurring in the 50th Precinct, police said.
2. Cane attack
A man was arrested for attacking a 34-yearold woman with a cane in the 2800 block of Webb Avenue about 8 a.m. on June 3, police said. The victim suffered bruising and swelling to her forearms. The 37-year-old alleged assailant was charged with felony assault.
3. Attempted robbery
A would-be robber brandishing a knife tried to steal money from a man walking near Broadway and West 225th Street shortly before 3 a.m. on June 2, police said. The 42-year-old was walking home from work when the perpetrator flashed the knife and demanded money. A car pulled up, apparently spooking the knife-wielding man and sending him scurrying away without any stolen property. The victim was not hurt.
4. Gun arrests
Two men were arrested on gun possession charges after police stopped their vehicle near Broadway and Mansion Street about 9 p.m. on June 4 and found a loaded 9-millimeter handgun, police said. The men, aged 21 and 22, were taken into custody without incident. The stop was the result of a traffic infraction, police said.
5. Stick attack
An 11-year-old boy was hit in the face with a stick by his older brother shortly after 11 p.m. on June 4, police said, The assault happened in the 2750 block of Sedgwick Avenue. The boy suffered cuts to his face before his brother allegedly fled.
6. Wallet stolen
A man was arrested after he allegedly leaned into a car in the 2850 block of Sedgwick Avenue on June 4 and swiped a woman’s wallet from her hand at about 7:30 p.m., police said. The 26-yearold victim was not hurt. The man arrested is her boyfriend, police said.
7. Laptop stolen
Someone stole a laptop computer from a man as he loaded items into a moving truck in the 2500 block of Independence Avenue on June 2 about 11 a.m., police said. The 37-year-old victim said the laptop had been in a bag downstairs, which he left unattended while he went to pick up other items, according to police. The computer has not been recovered.
