Schneiderman's new digs

Bookmark and Share

One of the Riverdale/Kingsbridge area’s three famously dispersed state senators has moved his district office closer to the neighborhood.

State Sen. Eric Schneiderman’s new district office about 30 blocks north of the old one. It’s now located at 5030 Broadway, Suite 704, in Manhattan.

One of the many consequences of decades of upstate Republican rule for the heavily Democratic Riverdale/Kingsbridge area has been state Senate districts redrawn to split the neighborhood as many ways as possible. Not one of Riverdale’s three Senate lawmakers has the neighborhood at the heart of his district, and not one of them has a district office in the Riverdale/Kingsbridge area.

Mr. Schneiderman represents parts of Riverdale and Kingsbridge, but the heart of his district is in Upper Manhattan.

Sen. Jeff Klein, who holds the seat Republican power broker Guy Velella once held, represents slivers of Riverdale and Fieldston but mostly the more Republican areas of Morris Park, Woodlawn, and parts of Westchester. His district office is on East Tremont Avenue.

Sen. Pedro Espada Jr. represents a sliver of Fieldston, more of Kingsbridge, and Kingsbridge Heights, but the heart of his district is in the West Bronx. He has been under fire for months for failing to open a district office at all.

Mr. Schneiderman’s new phone number is 212-544-0173. Riverdale residents can most easily access his new office by taking the No. 1 train to West 215th Street or the Bx7 or Bx20 bus.
