Shadow play
Wave Hill, located at West 249th Street and Independence Avenue, will host a family art project, “Shadow Play in the Forest/Juego con sombras en el bosque,” from 1 to 4 p.m.
Jorge Crespo will perform the shadow-puppet play The Ant and the Grasshopper, set in the Caribbean rainforest, on the grounds at the Sally and Gilbert Kerlin Learning Center.
Afterward, families can make puppets and scenery for their own shadow puppet theater.
The event is free with paid admission to the grounds.

Audubon visit
New York City Audubon Board President Peter Mott will be on-hand for a seasonal bird walk from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Wave Hill, located at West 249th Street and Independence Avenue.
Naturalist Gabriel Willow will lead the exploration of Wave Hill’s grounds and the birds that live there.
Participants ages 8 and up are welcome with an adult.
This is the first in a series of three sessions.
The fee for all three is $25 for Wave Hill members and $45 for nonmembers. Individual sessions cost $10 for members and $18 for nonmembers. Registration is required.

Garden tour
There will be a tour of the seasonal garden highlights at Wave Hill, located at West 249th Street and Independence Avenue, at 2 p.m.
Participants should meet at the Perkins Visitor Center. The event is free with admission to the grounds.

‘The Tin Drum’
The Riverdale-Yonkers Society for Ethical Culture, located at 4450 Fieldston Road, will screen The Tin Drum at 7 p.m.
The film follows a young boy who decides, at age 3, to stop growing up. Sadly, 1920s Germany does not stop its own decay, and the trappings of Nazism rise around him. His hometown of Danzig is caught up in Nazi Germany’s growth, and he rails against the tragedy that awaits at the end of its path.
The film runs 142 minutes and is in German with English subtitles.
The film club will accept a donation of $3 to $5 at the door.

Benefit event
There will be a benefit to support the family of the late Helen Galvin-Whetzel at the Gaelic Park catering hall, located at 4000 Corlear Ave., at 7:30 p.m.
Ms. Galvin-Whetzel passed away on Dec. 20 after a 10-year battle with cancer that began while she was pregnant with her second child. The event will celebrate Ms. Galvin-Whetzel’s courage in fighting through dozens of chemotherapies, two stem cell transplants and numerous other treatments in the course of her struggle to buy more time with her family.
Several varieties of raffle tickets are available. Tickets available for purchase in advance of the event have a grand prize of a trip to the Atlantis resort in the Bahamas. They cost $5 per ticket or $20 for a booklet of 5.
Light refreshments will be served. A suggested donation of $25 will be accepted at the door.

Singles afternoon
Singles & Friends will meet for lunch at 2 p.m. at a restaurant on City Island.
Lunch will be served outdoors at Seafood City, located at 459 City Island Ave.
Reservations are required, as is a $10 deposit toward the meal.
