I live in the vicinity of the missing mailboxes. The Post Office has been compromising customer service in Riverdale for a long time now. Several mailbox were removed without warning and not replaced. On a busy day at the Riverdale Station, the service line can back up for an hour. I have seen postal workers stuffing envelopes into apartment building mailboxes at 6:00 p.m. The Post Office doesn't want to hire additional employees, so they try to accomplish more with fewer people.

The Post Office is essentially a monopoly and they know that they can get away with poor service. Customers don't have a choice of mailboxes or a choice of Postal carriers. When it can be used, electronic mail is a great alternative to snail mail. It seems that the Post Office is always operating with a budget deficit. I don't know how they can stay in business with a negative cash flow year in and year out.
