You write "Navigating the complex maze of the high school admission process can leave many students and families feeling overwhelmed and confused." How true especially with a child who has special needs who for some reason the NYBOE does not view as the average child and they can basically be placed any where. I recently found a specialized school that appears it will meet my child's needs (he will be entering the 9th grade in the fall). I got no help from his present school and personally went to the NYBOE last week to find out how to apply (the school itself not allowed by law per their web site to give applications). You have to actually go to the NYBOE at some point before the fall and get the application and placed in a lottery! What does that say to me? My baby can be placed in a class where their are other children who are classified as Autistic, but with serious behavioral problems which is what began my fight to have him placed in a private school out in Long Island. Good article!
