Animals still undefeated this fall

The Animals, the South Riverdale Little League’s 14-and-under team, swept a doubleheader from the White Plains Tigers in the Westchester Baseball Association’s (WBA) fall league on Sunday.

The wins boost the Animals’ record to 4-0 this fall.

In the first game, the visiting Animals jumped out to a quick lead in the first inning when leadoff batter Danny Moynihan walked, stole two bases and scored on a bases-loaded walk.

In the top of the fourth, Ike Fields reached on an infield single, stole two bases and scored along with Moynihan, when Brian Alberts produced a two-run RBI groundout.

Moynihan scored his third run of the game in the top of the sixth, when he smoked a solo home run to dead center.

The Animals scored their final run of the game in the top of the seventh when Jonathan Sherman reached first base and stole second. He then benefited from two consecutive sacrifice bunts from Jonathan Katzman and Fields, which allowed him to score.

Animals’ starter Zack Farber was dominant, hurling a complete game on 84 pitches while allowing only two unearned runs on three hits.  Some nice defensive plays from outfielder Lucas Ludgate and infielders Alberts and Sherman helped stop any potential rallies by the Tigers.

Game two started with the Animals exploding for four runs in the first inning.  The big hit was a two-run single from Jesse Cooper-Leary. In the fourth inning, Farber scored his second run of the game on another scorching line drive from Cooper-Leary.

Moynihan, the Animals’ starter, pitched a complete game while striking out nine Tigers.

The Animals fall season runs through mid-November. For a schedule of their upcoming games, go to the WBA web site, at www.eteamz.com/wba.
