Biased election coverage

In the Nevada Primary, 64 Bernie Sanders supporters are disqualified as Republicans even though they are long-time Democrats. Hillary Clinton wins.

A protest by Sanders supporters is falsely reported by the corporate-owned mainstream media as a riot, with allegedly thrown chairs and imaginary death threats. MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow supports these lies by showing a clip of chair throwing from a wrestling event. Reader Supported News and CounterPunch journalists report the truth.

California has an open primary, but Democrats prove as adept at voter suppression as Republicans. Independents who wanted to vote for Sanders and didn’t know to ask for crossover ballots are told by poll workers they couldn’t vote for presidential candidates.

Now if The Daily News, which can also be described as Clinton campaign headquarters, were covering Clinton the same way they are covering Donald Trump, they would have the headlines, “Hillary Steals Nevada” and “Hillary Steals California.”

But fair coverage would point out that the Sanders health coverage proposal that Clinton calls unrealistic is what she said (back in 1994) we’d have by 2000. She changed her mind after $13 million in contributions from the health industry.

As Secretary of State, Clinton supported the Honduras military coup that replaced a democracy with a thuggish government that has killed over 2,500 women. Do the Honduran women who were merely raped, beaten and tortured think Clinton’s election would be a victory for women? By the way, this coup was not covered by The Daily News.

As for the Hondurans running from this horror and “illegally” entering the United States, Clinton said “Send them back!” President Obama, who’s been such a disappointment that Dr. Cornel West has called him a “counterfeit progressive,” is planning to do just that. City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Veverito has criticized his plans to send back Honduran and other Central American women and children fleeing violence. Obama’s actions against immigrants during his two terms have caused some to call him “Deporter-in-Chief.” But somehow the mainstream media doesn’t criticize him for his actual deportations while hitting Trump constantly for his proposed ones.

Daily News editorials claim Sanders’ proposals will bankrupt the country. But a study by Amherst economists claim they will increase employment and national income.

Sanders is a pro-worker candidate, so it is no surprise that the anti-worker Daily News is so against him. A perfect example of that publication’s crusade to further depress workers’ salaries is their love affair with the so-called Citizens Budget Commission, which should be called the One Percent Commission. Like that paper’s editorials, the commission believes government workers should not ever get raises, no matter how much prices increase. In a June 10 editorial page piece, their Carol Kellerman argues that city workers are overpaid by comparing their average income with private sector workers’ medium income. It’s not only their name that’s a lie.

Now who is The Daily News? Their publisher is billionaire Mortimer Zuckerman. Their opinion page editor is Joshua Greenman. This mediocre propagandist worked as a speechwriter for Giuliani and U.S. Sen. Joseph Lieberman and had zero journalistic experience before being given his current job in 2006. So is it so hard to figure out why all these con artists calling Trump a con artist hasn’t been more effective?
