Borough president’s praise for Monte is undeserved

To the editor:

In your Q & A last week with Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr., he says in regard to Montefiore’s proposed 11-story outpatient facility on Riverdale Avenue: “To their credit, after having a site where they could have done as-of-right, they came down.”

The borough president needs to get his facts straight.

As reported on the front page of The Riverdale Press (Feb. 6, 2014), Montefiore misinformed our local elected officials that its original plans were withdrawn, when in fact they had been disapproved by the city’s Department of Buildings. So the proposed mega-clinic clearly was not as of right.
