There was a recent changing of the guard at the Mount St. Vincent baseball team, when the school named John Muller as its new head coach. Muller joins the Dolphins after spending the past two seasons as the pitching coach at St. Thomas Aquinas College (STAC).

A little background on Muller: he was a four-year starter as a student-athlete at STAC, and still sits in the top five all-time in eight different offensive categories. He is the school’s career leader in hits, total bases and doubles, and was inducted into the STAC Hall of Fame in 2011. After graduating from STAC in 2007, Muller was signed by the Chicago Cubs and was named a Northwest League All-Star with the minor league Boise Hawks in 2008.

“I am extremely excited to have the opportunity to take over as the head coach here at CMSV,” Muller said. “I feel I am ready and prepared for the challenges ahead of me, and the Mount community can expect our team to be ready and prepared to compete this upcoming season. My staff and I are ready to get our hands on the team this fall and begin working.”

CMSV Director of Athletics Laura Pruitt is looking forward to seeing what her new hire can deliver beginning this fall.

“I am very excited to welcome Coach Muller to the Mount St. Vincent family,” said Pruitt, who just completed her first year on the job. “His motivation, drive and passion for teaching [are] very apparent, and more importantly, his commitment to the holistic development of our student-athletes in the classroom, in the community and on the field quickly identified him as the ideal leader of our program.”

Muller replaces outgoing head coach Vinny Todino, who led the Dolphins to a disappointing 7-23 overall record and a 3-13 mark in the Skyline Conference this past season.
