Celebrate spring

Posted

Springtime is the only pretty ring time, Shakespeare wrote, and the season indeed seems like the best time of year for love. Whether you are walking the fragrant grounds of one of the area’s gardens or are a senior open to romance in unexpected places, it’s so easy to fall in love in, and with, Riverdale.

Now is when gardens both great and small are at their finest. Take a walk down Riverdale’s streets to find magnificent magnolias, tender tulips and more. Strike up a conversation with a local gardener, and you might end up with a friend for life.

Wave Hill, Riverdale Park and other local green spaces are just splendid right now. Riverdale Park offers a naturally wild respite from the city, while Wave Hill epitomizes the art of gardening. You can take that special someone a bit north to Untermyer Gardens for another breathtaking landscape, with features inspired by no less a monument of love than the Taj Mahal.

Year-round, residents of what many consider a naturally occurring retirement community are finding romance in their golden years. The Hebrew Home at Riverdale is changing attitudes about intimacy for seniors, and a number of other local retirement homes have followed suit. Centers like Riverdale Senior Services are also meet-up spots for elderly singles, proving that love’s not Time’s fool at all.

Before long, cold temperatures will be back and we’ll retreat into our hibernal shells. So carpe diem! Carpe Riverdalem! Let’s celebrate spring — and love — for all they’re worth.
