City must act now to prevent crashes

To the editor:

Since moving to my home, I have assisted angry, stunned and bleeding victims in the aftermath of three auto collisions at 231st Street and Arlington Avenue.

The latest crash occurred in October of this year, when our fire department was called in to deal with a smoking, leaking vehicle as we awaited an ambulance.  I ask those in a position to help to promptly install four-way stop signs instead of the two existing east/west stop signs at Arlington Avenue and 231st Street.

This location is vulnerable to crashes for two reasons.  Many drivers fail to come to a full stop and look carefully, while it is common to witness drivers speeding north and south along this stretch of Arlington Avenue.  Speed bumps may also be needed.  I have complained about this to the DOT before but with no results.

It would be great to see any of our local authorities (i.e. DOT, public officials, CB8, 50th Pct.) taking prompt action to prevent future calamities at this location, and to update the community via this newspaper.  Thanks in advance.
