Dog run doesn’t despoil memorial

With all due respect, I could not disagree more with the thoughts expressed by Thomas Casey concerning the proposed dog run close to the memorial commemorating the Stockbridge Indian Massacre.

The fact that Father Richard Gorman had never heard of the Stockbridge Massacre really says it all: “Out of sight; out of mind.”

I would suggest placing the dog run so people using it will be close enough to the monument to be attracted by it. Once they have exercised Fido, they could easily step over and read the plaque. That will provide them the opportunity to learn something about local history. Having the monument in dignified but splendid isolation will do little to educate people about the massacre, which is certainly the mission of the Kingsbridge Historical Society.
