Editorial comment: Join us in thanking local agencies

With the recent death of tireless volunteer Muriel “Mickey” Morris, Riverdale lost one of its unsung champions.

She was a relentless booster for Riverdale Mental Health Association. Until her passing at the age of 86, she worked — without desire for acclaim — to raise money for the Riverdale institution, which serves over 20,000 clients a year.

Thankfully, she did not work alone.

Institutions like RMHA are thick on the ground in Riverdale. Riverdale YMYWHA, Riverdale Senior Center and the Riverdale Neighborhood House are just a few, and the way they nurture this community is part of what makes it one of the best neighborhoods in the world.

There are innumerable reasons to thank the people who work at or contribute to these organizations, and just as many ways to do it. We chose a small one to start: Riverdale Night at Wave Hill.

On Wednesday, June 10, members of RMHA, RNH, the Riverdale Y and the Riverdale Senior Center are welcome to watch the sunset at Wave Hill, thanks in part to The Riverdale Press. Wave Hill will host wine tastings and lessons in pastel drawing. Reservations are available for a sunset supper at Wave Hill’s terrace café. And the gardens, one of Riverdale’s brightest- shining jewels, will be open, too.

If you’d like to join The Press in celebrating this neighborhood’s supporters, you can thank them in person that evening at Wave Hill, on West 249th Street at Independence Avenue, from 6 until 8:30 p.m.
