 A steakhouse owner, a youthful barber, a doorman, a TV host, a child services provider — on this page and on page B9 you’ll find environmental portraits of people that make the northwest Bronx diverse and unique. 

In photography speak, f 2.8 is a wide-aperture lens that creates a narrow depth of field and allows the shooter to direct the viewer where to look.

In her final project for The Press, outgoing photo editor Marisol Díaz sought to point readers’ eyes to the community as a whole — those up the hill and down the hill, from east to west and everywhere in between.

She wants people to think of the images as “a token of my appreciation for all those moments of incredible intimacy you have shared with me and the rest of the readership.”
