Riverdale Boy Scout Troop 240 promoted four young Riverdalians to the rank of Eagle at a ceremony at Manhattan College on Saturday.

Ari Rubinsztejn, 16, Jason Levy, 16, Matthew Osborn, 16, and Ryan Bhat, 15, earned the Boy Scouts’ highest rank of Eagle Scout. Conor McKoy, 19, who was promoted to Eagle Scout last year, was also honored at the event because he was away in China at the ceremony last year.

Since forming in 1920, 140 scouts have earned the prestigious Eagle rank at Riverdale’s Troop 240.

Mike Dailey, assistant scout master of Troop 240, described the young scouts as “exceptional” and “highly-motivated individuals.” He said not only are all dedicated to the troop, but they are involved in many activities at their schools and are all athletes.

Jason was featured in The Riverdale Press in 2009 for his bar mitzvah project, which was fixing up and giving away dozens of bikes to children in need. He’s organized efforts to clean Seton Park’s baseball fields and he plays baseball for High School of American Studies.

Mr. Dailey described Ari, who attends High School of American Studies as well, as an “accomplished outdoorsman” and a great leader who was able to successfully navigate the scout group to a safe place to camp on a 6-mile hike up Hunter Mountain in the dark.

Matt has not only earned the highest rank for a boy scout in Riverdale, serving as the senior patrol leader, but he also serves as senior patrol leader at a second scout group in Long Island, according to Mr. Dailey. He attends Half Hollow Hills High School West.

Ryan, who attends the David A. Stein, Riverdale/Kingsbridge Academy, MS/HS 141, was one of the leaders of a 10-day, 90-mile hike in New Mexico last summer, Mr. Dailey said, referring to him as a, “scholar athlete.” Mr. Dailey also described him as the most determined of the group.

Conor, who missed his ceremony last year because he was in China on a student internship, gave part of his speech on Saturday in Chinese. He currently attends Elon University after graduating from Fordham Prep.
