Hebrew Home expounds on plans

Posted

To the editor,

This letter is in response to your front-page article, “Hebrew Home plans big expansion” (May 19). We appreciate your balanced coverage; however, there are several points that were included in the article, which we would like to clarify. The article states that there will be “388 independent senior living units and accommodations for 90 other elderly people.” In fact, the Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) plan calls for the reduction of 240 skilled nursing beds. With this reduction, our new configuration will serve 144 additional older adults, with less intensive care needs.

In addition, we are proud of the Hebrew Home’s unprecedented transparency in our community as well as our good faith efforts to work with community leaders, supporters, elected officials and neighbors about our planned improvements for New York’s older adults. Our open dialogue will continue as we create New York’s first retirement community, one that will benefit countless older people, following our 100-year mission of care to help them age with grace and dignity.
