Helen Barbara Pattin dies

Dr. Helen Barbara Pattin, an endocrinologist who lived in Riverdale for 46 years, died on Sept. 10. She was in her 80s.

Ms. Pattin worked at Montefiore Medical Center and Beth Israel Medical Center North and had a private practice in Manhattan. She retired in 2007.

Ms. Pattin was a member of Congregation Shaarei Shalom and enjoyed museums, crossword puzzles, art, theater, traveling, antiques and literature.
“Mostly she loved helping anybody she could,” daughter Lisa Malina said.
“She had a tremendous impact on my life. She was a very bright woman who believed in education and will influence me forever,” Ms. Malina added.

Ms. Pattin was buried in Mount Hebron Cemetery in Queens.

She is survived by her husband, Herbert Pattin, of Riverdale; son, Andrew Pattin, and his partner, Melissa Hersch, of Vermont; daughter, Ms. Malina, and her husband, Alan Malina, of Connecticut; and her brother, Michael Horowitz, and his wife, Sylvia Horowitz, of Binghamton, N.Y.

She is predeceased by her sister, Joan Welkowitz, and survived by Ms. Welkowitz’ husband, Walter Welkowitz, of New Hampshire.

Ms. Malina said those who wish to honor her mother’s memory should, “Live life fully.”
