The New York City Coalition for a Smoke-Free City and its Bronx Smoke-Free Partnership honored Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz at the Riverdale YM-YWHA on Monday for his work in reducing tobacco use and for his support of tobacco control policies.

The Coalition also recognized the Riverdale Y for its recent decision to become a smoke-free facility. Smoking is not permitted in the Y or on its grounds.

Earlier this year, Mr. Dinowitz introduced legislation with state Sen. Gustavo Rivera that bans smoking within 100 feet of school entrances and exits. The bill passed both houses of the state legislature.

“I’m going to do anything I can to make it more difficult for smokers and before you know it, we won’t have any smokers,” Mr. Dinowitz said.

A summer youth group from the Riverdale Y performed a dance choreographed to celebrate the healthy environment the Riverdale Y.

“In summary, smoking stinks,” Mr. Dinowitz said after receiving his award.
