Kids’ birthday party venue celebrates one of its own

Posted

The aroma of pizza wafted through bright orange rooms Monday evening as a band called Rockin’ Railroad played “If You’re Happy And You Know It.” A blue puppet with red hair sang to a crowd of enthusiastic kids and their parents.

“They’re good. They’re very polished,” said father Kevin Smyth, who brought his 6-year-old daughter Tess, as they watched the band. “The kids seem to like them.”

Tess was among the roughly 40 children who came to Kidville with their parents or guardians to celebrate the organization’s 10th anniversary on Monday, at their branch in Riverdale.

A New York-based franchise with locations in the U.S., Canada and India, Kidville offers gym, music, art and dance classes, among other activities for children from as young as infants up to age six.

Husband and wife Jesse and Adi Rosenfeld opened the Riverdale location last June. After moving to Riverdale four years ago with young twin daughters while Ms. Rosenfeld was pregnant with the couple’s third child, the Rosenfelds felt the need for a space where younger kids could play.

“We were sitting outside two years ago on a cold day wishing there was a facility for kids to play,” Jesse Rosenfeld said. After researching Kidville, they signed a franchise agreement and began the process of finding a space and starting a marketing campaign. They settled at their current site at West 235th Street because of its central location in Riverdale.

“Riverdale is full of young families, and we felt this would be a great resource,” Mr. Rosenfeld said.

Toys, along with children’s clothes and costumes for sale line the walls at the front of the facility. Parents can throw their children birthday parties at the site, with themes like “Pretty in Pink Ballerina Party” and “Little Explorers Safari Adventure,” with prices starting at $595.
