Police said they have arrested Jose Torres for allegedly stabbing his roommate to death in the early hours of Tuesday at their 2724 University Ave. apartment.

Mr. Torres, 51, was arrested around 7:30 p.m. on the same day as the murder, according to police. They said they were able to capture him after receiving an anonymous tip, but did not specify where the arrest took place beyond saying it was within the confines of the 50th Precinct.

Authorities are yet to release the name of the victim, who was 59. Police arriving at the scene following the 1 a.m. stabbing found the man bleeding from multiple wounds. Authorities said video footage from the apartment building showed Mr. Torres fleeing the scene, leaving a trail of blood down the hallway and stairs.

Emergency personnel took the victim to St. Barnabas Hospital, where medical staff could not save him.

It was not immediately clear what may have prompted Mr. Torres to attack his roommate, though some news outlets quoted sources as saying the men were fighting over a third roommate, the girlfriend of the victim.

Mr. Torres faces charges of second-degree murder and first-degree manslaughter. His arraignment at Bronx Criminal Court was scheduled for Monday, April 25.
