Koppell’s farewell marks end of an age

To the editor:

I write to declare not the end of an era, but the end of an age in Riverdale.  After 74 years of residence and many decades of service Oliver Koppell has left Riverdale to take up residence in Manhattan.

A Harvard undergrad and Harvard Law graduate who somehow kept a common touch while serving our community.  Our assemblyman for 20 years, a stint as attorney general of the State of New York, one of the founders of the Riverdale Kingsbridge Academy and then our councilmember for 12 years.

Having been personally effected by his humanity, I am confident I am but one of a multitude.
