A man was slashed while jogging in Van Cortlandt Park on Tuesday night, suffering a 2-inch laceration on his right cheek, according to police.

They said that the victim, 29, was running in the park near Putnam Trail South at about 7:33 p.m. when two males approached him. The victim told police he felt like one of them had punched him in the face before realizing he had been stabbed.

There was no information on whether the suspects attempted to rob the victim.

Police described one of the attackers as a black male, about 6 feet tall in his 20s with a small afro; he was reported as wearing a reddish, hooded sweatshirt. There was no description of the second assailant.

This was the second slashing incident in the northwest Bronx in just over a week. In the early hours of March 20, a man slashed three people at El Economico Restaurant, located at 5589 Broadway.

Update: Officer Ventura clarified that the slashing took place on the bridle trail, near the dog run that is roughly parallel with West 252nd Street, not near Putnam Trail South.
