Many abortion foes are Christian fanatics

To the editor:

The anti-abortion Nazis are at it again. The target this time is to scuttle the health care bill in Congress, if their foul agenda isn’t strictly obeyed — no funding for abortions. This writer takes the poasition that I don’t want my tax dollars to pay for any health care whatsoever for anyone who opposes a woman’s right not to become a compulsory baby machine against her will.

This nation has its own Taliban types whose attitude is Christianity uber alles. They seek to impose their fundamentalist agenda upon those in our pluralistic society who do not subscribe to their fascist dogmatic ideology. In this case, the weapon of choice is the legislative branch. Whether it is ramming through parental notification laws, “informed consent” requirements, waiting periods or denying coverage for essential medical procedures, the misogynistic agenda is the same — deny a woman the right to control her own reproduction.

Thirty years ago in Iran, Muslim fanatics seized our diplomats in an act of war that went unavenged. Today is is a segment of American women that are to be held hostage by Christian al-Qaeda types who demand obsequious obedience to their asinine brand of religious dogma.

It is long past time to draw a line in the sand and make it clear to these degenerate b------- ds that their terroristic extortion threats will not be tolerated. If Rep. Nancy Pelosi doesn’t have the spine to include comprehensive health care reform for women because she fears the legislation will go down to defeat, the pro-choice representatives need to tell her that without such protections, they will torpedo the bill. Only when the other side starts to feel the pain from their intransigence will progress be made. The blackmail of the Christian right must be ended — once and for all.

In closing, I wish to reiterate a line I wish I had authored: “If men could get pregnant, abortion would be elevated to a sacrament.”
