Margaret Moody Hook, a longtime Riverdale resident, died on Feb. 14, after a two-and-a-half year battle with brain cancer. She was 67.

Ms. Hook grew up in Pennsylvania, graduating from North Hills High School in Pittsburgh. She went on to earn a degree from Denison University in Ohio, and later earned her master’s from the University of Virginia, where she majored in mathematics.

For many years, she taught math at Mercy College in Dobbs Ferry, N.Y., and then later worked for an insurance service as an actuary.

Ms. Hook and her husband Edward lived in Riverdale for more than 30 years. She was involved at PS 24, where her two daughters attended school, and she taught at the nursery school at Riverdale Presbyterian Church. She was also a member of Wave Hill, and loved to walk through its gardens, as well as along the streets of Fieldston, said her youngest daughter, Betsy Hook.

Mr. Hook died in 2006. Two years later, Ms. Hook retired and moved back to her home state of Pennsylvania.

Ms. Hook is survived by her daughters Karen Hook of Boston and Betsy Hook of Queens; and a sister, Barbara Moody of Pittsburgh.

Services will be held at Riverdale Presbyterian Church on Saturday, March 2, at 11 a.m.  The family asks that contributions in her name be made to the American Cancer Society, 320 Bilmar Drive, Pittsburgh, Pa. 15205-4620, or to the St. Barnabas Health System, 5827 Meridian Road, Gibsonia, Pa. 15044.
