Maryellen Smith, photography lover, longtime Riverdalian, dies at 61

Maryellen Smith, a longtime Riverdale resident, died on March 27. She was 61.

Ms. Smith grew up in Marble Hill and graduated from Walton High School. Not long out of high school, she landed a job in the accounts payable department of JP Morgan in Manhattan. There she would remain for the next three decades.

Kathleen McGarry said her sister loved photography, as well as music and theater.

Ms. Smith was predeceased by her parents, Charles and Catherine Smith, and brother Charles Smith. 

She is survived by her sister Kathleen McGarry and her husband William of Poughquag, N.Y., brother Donald Smith of Yorktown Heights, N.Y., sister Jane Raiola and her husband Daniel, of Cortlandt Manor, N.Y., sister Anne Kelly and her husband Kevin, of Oxford, Conn.; nieces Ashley and Kathleen; nephews Andrew and his wife Stacy, Robert, Kevin and Kevin Jr.; and great niece Amelia Ann McGarry.

A memorial service for Ms. Smith will be held at St. John’s Church, 3021 Kingsbridge Ave., on Saturday, April 20, at 11 a.m.
