Missing teenager returns to family

One week after her parents reported her missing on Oct. 17, a DeWitt Clinton student has been found and is back home, her family said, but questions remain as to what happened to Alyssa Baez, 14.

“She’s home safe and sound,” Alyssa’s father, Angel Baez, said on Oct. 24. “We’re really relieved. We’re all happy that she’s home. We’re just relieved that she’s home.”

He said that he did not know why his daughter ran away. “The police told us not to really press her too much right now, just to embrace her,” he said.

Police said Monday Alyssa had been seen entering a train station with an unknown male. Mr. Baez said that he did not know the identity of the male or how he knew his daughter.

He said his daughter may not return to DeWitt Clinton High School and may be home schooled instead.

Alyssa Baez’s last day at DeWitt Clinton so far was Oct. 17, when she went missing, according to the NYPD headquarters and her family.

Alyssa’s father went to pick up her after school and waited until around 5 p.m., but she did not appear, her mother, Tiffany Valentin, said last week. When Alyssa did not return home, he reported her missing later in the evening, Ms. Valentin said.

Ms. Valentin also said last week that the family had been knocking on doors, posting flyers and sharing information on social media about Alyssa’s disappearance.
