‘Money’ says go to Manhattan for a good deal on college

Prospective students looking for the best value for their tuition money can add Manhattan College to their college list.

On July 28, Money magazine ranked the college at number 40 on its list of Best Colleges.

The school placed sixth on the magazine’s list of “25 Colleges That Add the Most Value,” based on the average salary of schools’ alumni.

Money magazine’s ranking attests to the success of our graduates and the relevance and transformative power of the education they receive at Manhattan College,” said William Clyde, the school’s executive vice president and provost, in a statement.

This is the first year the publication has compiled college rankings. Researchers examined over 1,500 four-year colleges and universities throughout the U.S. in their search for finalists, eliminating any schools with  below-average graduation rates and ranking the remaining 665 schools based on educational quality, affordability and post-graduation prospects.

The magazine worked with a former commissioner of the Department of Education’s National Center for Education Statistics, along with payscale.com, to compile data.

Mr. Schneider found that the price of a student’s college education does not correlate to success in the job market after graduation.

“The published price of a college doesn’t tell you very much about what you’ll actually pay or of students’ later success in life,” he said. “There is zero correlation with most of our measures.”
