To the editor,
Reading about the recent spate of crimes in Van Cortlandt Park (“Crimes prompt call for stronger patrols,” June 9) reminded me of the many years I kept a horse at the stable there (which, incidentally, prompted me to move to Riverdale). I was able to roam the far reaches of the park without incident. I have since traded the horse for a bicycle.
However, I also remember when we had four permanently assigned NYC police officers and their four mounts at the stable.
Perhaps a mounted patrol can be reintroduced to counter this recent troubling trend.
