Neighborhood lacks vision

Planning? In Riverdale-Kinsgbridge? What planning?

OK, not to disparage some nice improvements. But one big fat monstrosity brings sadness. To wit, that gigantic storage building on a vast tract of land along Broadway. Is this the only thing brilliant minds could come up with? A cash cow for its owners, hiring virtually nobody (usually these storage boxes only require two or three hands to man the cash registers and lock and unlock), a big fat ugly box surrounded by acres of parking lot in what could have been a wonderful multi-use area with stores, parks, etc.?

Who OK’d this stupid, ugly and useless box which brings nothing to this community? Did our Fearless Leaders raise any objections? (If so, bless them and forgive me my ignorance.) Of course, we will also continue to see the proliferation of senior/nursing complexes along Broadway across Van Cortlandt Park, an area ideally suited to young families, mixed use residence, etc. These centers, like the Big Ugly Box, are cash cows for their owners — and again, bring minimal energy to our area  (sorry, don’t mean to  demean seniors, being one myself).

In the old days in The Riverdale Press, the Steins endlessly rhapsodized about Beautiful Riverdale, complete with lovely images of flowers to mark the changing seasons. They championed a notion that Riverdale stood for some sort of higher cultural value. Cruel fact is, like everything else in the Big Apple, Riverdale is about the real estate dollar, nothing more, nothing less.
