Not quite a ‘Motown’ night

To the editor:

When you have someone covering a musical event, it should be someone who knows more about music then Nic Cavell (“Seniors groove to Motown hits at Marble Hill center,” March 19).

I assume the Marble Hill Senior Center referred to their event as Motown week because they were playing a lot of Motown songs. But none of the songs mentioned by Mr. Cavell are Motown songs.

He refers to Frank Sinatra’s “Unforgettable.” I do not know of Sinatra ever recording this song. In fact, a list of all the songs recorded by Sinatra does not include this song.

“Unforgettable” is associated with my favorite singer, Nat King Cole. He got up to number twelve on the charts with it in 1952. In 1959, Dinah Washington got up to number seventeen with this song. In 1991 Cole was posthumously back up to number fourteen with an electronically created duet of this song with his daughter Natalie.
