PS 207 receives funds for tech

P.S. 207 is receiving $100,000 for technology through a grant secured by northwest Bronx Councilman Andrew Cohen. The funds will go toward laptops, smart boards and additional technology at the 3030 Godwin Terrace School.

“This grant, along with continued advocacy from the school community, will help improve the educational experience for all students,” Mr. Cohen said in a statement.

The grant marked the end of a school year that was rocked by allegations of severe bullying, administrative stonewalling and calls for help from frustrated parents. Located in Kingsbridge, P.S. 207 serves pre-kindergarten to second grade.

Following Press reports of the problems, the Department of Education promised a range of safety improvements in April. The plan included hiring four school aides, purchasing equipment for student use during recess, repairing fences in the schoolyard and steps from Principal Maria Rosado and Superintendent Melodie Mashel to increase family engagement

“Superintendent Mashel is continuing to work closely with the school to ensure all concerns are being addressed, including hiring additional staff, implementing trainings, increasing engagement with families, hosting safety meetings, making repairs, and purchasing new equipment for students,” DOE spokeswoman Toya Holness said in a statement.

She added that in the 2016 admissions cycle, 34 more students applied to P.S. 207’s kindergarten than in the 2015 cycle and that the number of students receiving offers decreased by five.
