Praise for congressman after International Women's Day

To the editor,

As a Riverdale resident and volunteer with American Jewish World Service (AJWS), I’d like to publicly thank Rep. Eliot Engel for championing the International Violence Against Women Act (IVAWA), which was reintroduced in the 114th Congress on March 8, International Women’s Day. Mr. Engel is the ranking member on the House Foreign Affairs committee.

IVAWA ensures that the U.S. government puts the full weight of its foreign aid and international diplomacy behind global efforts to end violence against women and girls.

As global citizens who are committed to justice, it is our responsibility to speak out about the violence and abuse experienced by hundreds of millions of women and girls worldwide. Mr. Engel has shown exceptional leadership in taking this responsibility seriously and we commend him.
