The Riverdale United girls under-12 travel soccer team, which was started only two months ago, swept the Yonkers Columbus Day tournament on Sunday. The defense, led by Mia Kauffman, held strong in the four games, not allowing a single goal.

The team beat the Yonkers Condors 1-0 on a goal from Mia Espinosa, who finished the day with three goals. They then took down the New Rochelle Dragons 2-0 with goals from Yasmeen Osborne and Karen Switzer. Susan Chung and Lara Belton scored in win over the Chappaqua Blast, and Jonei Ettricks led the way in a 3-0 victory over the Castleford Royals.

The United, coached by Andrew Belton and Kerri Osborne, is in first place in the Westchester League at 5-0.

The team has also begun a relationship with the Manhattan College women’s soccer team, as the college players assist at the United’s Friday evening practices. Sophomore Lizzy Carlson and seniors Aislinn McIlvenny and Daniella Morgante have worked with the United on passing technique and footwork. And the youth players got the opportunity to walk out with the Jaspers before one of their games.
