Robbery leads to gunfire on Broadway

A robbery led to a chase and gunfire on Broadway early Monday morning, according to police, though there were no reported injuries.

Authorities said that four men robbed another male at 4:30 a.m. at Broadway and Kimberly Place, then fled northbound in a white Ford vehicle.

Police continued that three people who were with the victim jumped into their own car in pursuit of the robbery suspects. The men in pursuit crashed their vehicle into the Ford after driving less than a block, on Broadway near the intersection with West 231st Street.

As the suspected robbers got out of their vehicle and attempted to flee on foot, one of them reportedly fired a gun in the direction of the pursuers’ car. The gunfire struck an unoccupied vehicle.

Police shut down Broadway between Kimberly Place and 231st Street for most of the morning, forcing the MTA to reroute bus lines and causing traffic delays.

The neighborhood saw a similar incident on June 22, according to police. They said someone fired at an unoccupied car at the corner of Broadway and 225th Street following a late-night argument.

The owner of that vehicle told police he heard an argument and gunfire outside of his home the night of the 22nd. The next morning, he found his car riddled with bullet holes. No one was injured in the incident
