Film screening

The Spuyten Duyvil Library, located at 650 W. 235th St., will show Panic in the Streets, at 1 p.m.

Elia Kazan’s 1950 film is set in New Orleans and is about a vicious hoodlum Blackie (Jack Palance), who along with his friends, kill an illegal immigrant they believe won too much in a card game.

The next morning, Dr. Clint Reed (Richard Widmark) of the public health service confirms the dead man had pneumonic plague. Dr. Clint must find and inoculate the killers and their associates in 48 hours with the reluctant aid of police captain Tom Warren (Paul Douglas) to prevent a catastrophic epidemic.

Torah study

Hebrew Institute of Riverdale, located at 3700 Henry Hudson Parkway, will host a study session beginning at 7 p.m. for parents and children to learn Torah and enjoy some pizza.

There will be a special ice cream party and prizes for the opening session.

Flea market

The Church of the Mediator, located at 260 W. 231st St., will host a flea market from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and a health fair from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The flea market will be held outdoors, weather permitting, but will move inside the church in case of bad weather. Table rental is $20 for one table or $35 for two tables. Proceeds will benefit the church.

The health fair will include blood pressure and glucose testing.

Family Shabbat

The Greenburgh Hebrew Center, located at 515 Broadway in Dobbs Ferry, N.Y., will host a family Shabbat service at 10 a.m.

In addition to specially prepared Siddur booklets and learning and singing, GHC’s services include an informal break-out session with Rabbi Barry Kenter.

The services will be followed by a kid-friendly luncheon.

Adult degrees

Lehman College, located at 250 Bedford Park Boulevard West, will hold an open house, from noon to 1:30 p.m. in room 4 of Carman Hall, to explain its adult degree program.

The program offers class schedules, advising, credit for life experience or U.S. military service, regular or individualized majors and special seminars for adults looking to return to school after a long time away.
