Sixteen Manhattan College students win James Patterson award

After reviewing hundreds of applications, Manhattan College selected eight juniors and eight seniors who exemplify the college's mission as recipients of the first James Patterson Scholarships.

In May, the 1969 alumnus and mystery writer James Patterson announced he would recognize student leaders at Manhattan College by rewarding them with $5,000 each.

“The scholarship program will support students whose success thus far gives promise of extraordinary accomplishment, leadership and service,” Mr. Patterson said in a statement. “My hope is that this recognition will encourage these talented young men and women to continue their good work and inspire them to go out after graduation to make a real difference in their communities.”

The following students were selected based on their merit, needs and involvement in activities related to the college’s mission: Giuliana Addesso, Morgan Maclearie, Claire Miksad, Maria Sanzari, Eric Scattaretico, Justin Vento, Kathleen White, Kathryn Wojtkiewicz, Walaa Abdallah, Marianna Belfiore, Lauren Buckheit, Dimitri Mezidor, Clare O’Connell, Jeanette Settembre, Nicole Vacca and Colleen Walsh.

Mr. Patterson also funds a second scholarship program at Manhattan College, which contributes to 25 minority students’ tuition.
