Sol Zarco was FDNY lieutenant

Sol Zarco, a longtime Riverdale resident, died on March 6.  He was 85.

Born on the Lower East Side, Mr. Zarco moved to Riverdale in 1970 and lived on Hudson Manor Terrace.

He served in the New York City Fire Department for 35 years, retiring as a lieutenant. Mr. Zarco loved the theater and the opera and enjoyed dining at the many great restaurants throughout the city. He especially loved spending time with his family and his four grandchildren, his family said.

Mr. Zarco is survived by his wife of 47 years, Debra, of Riverdale; daughter Laura Arus and her husband Rick of Astoria, Queens; son Richard Zarco and his wife Amalia, of Manhattan; grandchildren Sydney, Sean, Sasha and Dillon; and sister Siri Reckler of Scarsdale, N.Y.

Funeral services were held at Plaza Memorial Chapel on March 8. Burial followed at Cedar Park Cemetery in Paramus, N.J.
