Week of events celebrates Bronx

Bronx Week marked its 45th year earlier this month with a wide variety of activities throughout the borough. The idea is putting a spotlight on the people and places that make the Bronx unique.

One of this year’s events was a historic walking tour in Marble Hill on May 7. Angel Hernandez, an education coordinator for the Bronx County Historical Society, called the undertaking a success.

“People learned a lot about the local history and how Marble Hill is considered to be Manhattan, but yet is physically in the Bronx,” he said.

Bronx Week continued through Sunday with family and senior days, yoga classes and parades.

A highlight of the festivities was the induction ceremony for four new inductees to the Bronx Walk of Fame — actor Vincent Pastore, of “Sopranos” fame, animator and director Peter Sohn, author Arlene Alda and dance pioneer Eduardo Vilaro.

The Bronx Week Grand Finale Concert took place on Sunday on Mosholu Parkway, with Naughty By Nature and Tito Nieves playing lively tunes.
