LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

Angry, rich white men

Posted

To the editor:

For the (very) few apologists left in our area for Trump and the GOP, you’ve just been handed cyanide pills in the form of this blatantly punishing tax cut bill. Good luck.

The 75 percent of the country not married to the anti-urban divisive agenda spouted out by the angry, wealthy white men in D.C., will be too busy taking aim at the bull’s eye on the backs of every single elected Republicans.

We aim well. Just ask ex-county executive Andrew Spano in Westchester.

Shocking the Press would see fit to print such a blatantly racist and hateful letter such as this. What if I substituted the word "black" or "asian" or "hispanic" for "White" here. Not that I would ever be so racist and disgustingly hateful, but would that be ok if I did that?

And as far as the tax bill being "punishing," you're right Mr. Stoler. It is punishing to rich people who used to use all sorts of loopholes to get out of paying taxes. But as for me, and millions of other Americans, I'm looking very forward to getting more of my hard earned money back. And thank god I no longer have to worry about the "Obamacare mandate" anymore. You see, a lot of our tax dollars are wasted to fraud, corruption, useless programs and war. I'm very glad we're all paying a little less into that kitty. I want my poor bothers and sisters to pay less and I want my rich brothers and sisters to pay less. The fact that you're still so wedded to this anuiquated belief system of Democrat politics is shocking to me, but that's your right. Just please leave the hate out of the discussion please?

Also, the dozens of corporations giving out bonuses and raises to their workers as a direct result of this would tend to make your argument look pretty foolish. The fact that not one Democrat voted for this is going to hurt them in 2018.

I have a suggestion though for Mr. Stoler. Simply pay more taxes if you want. Simply write a check to the US treasure for more than you owe and you'll be all set. Somehow or other, I just don't think this will happen though. Chances are that with whatever money you do get back you'll spend it on your family, which is the whole freaking point!!!

Racism is a phenomenon that involves the deployment of deep and longstanding structural power imbalance. "Angry, white men" is not racist. White men, as a rule, hold structural power and privilege over people of color. To say that someone, white or of color, is using racist language or behaving in a racist manner toward a white man or men is to misunderstand and misconstrue racism.

Perhaps that argument holds water in a college lecture room, but out here in the real world sorry, no one buys that argument anymore. Funny how the most "liberal" and "tolerant" people go thru such contortions to justify hatred and utter vitriol. That's why your side is losing Jennifer, and will continue to lose. while you're living in some fantasy world, the rest of us in the real world know exactly what's up.

Also, I just remembered. The total lack of self-awareness on your part is breathtaking. YOu write that "White men, as a rule, hold structural power and privilege over people of color." If I were a black person, I would be extremely offended at that infantilizing description of my lack of power. Nor would I accept it. And a lot of my black brothers and sisters don't. They are just as sick of nosy "tolerant liberals" as I am. Stop the hate!! Even if it's veiled behind sopposed "tolerance."

Finally, tell the downtrodden white people of Appalachia or any other white ghetto about their "structural power" and you will be laughed out of the building.

It's kind of sad that people still hold views such as yours. It's not helpful to progress at any rate. You see, there are people who do hold positions of structural power over the rest of us But it is class based and not race based. Of course, Foundations (such as the Ford or Gates foundations) fund your leftist groups to spread the canard of race and ignore issues of class. This is on purpose so the Wall Street bankers that fund the left can continue to rape us all with their taxes and wars, all the while using the useful idiots of the world who still believe in the drivel you are pushing. Amazing that you don't realize this yet. Anyhow, I love it. Keep it up. While your side is obsessed with non-issues, we'll keep on winning with our message of economic and cultural populism, which is a movement sweeping across the globe at a fast rate.

Mr. "Teller", your fragility is showing.

Ah, the old "I lost the argument so I'll resort to personal attack" tactic.

Sorry, there's nothing frail about me. But that's fine if you want to tell yourself that.

I notice you never seem to come back with a cogent or convincing argument or discussion though, which is very telling. Try arguing the issues and try staying away from psychological examinations. It's basically one step up from name-calling and makes you look very foolish. Of course, your non-starter "petitions" and your CSX debacle make you look even worse. I bet all the "minorities" who are breathing in all that diesel fuel you subjected them to are not very happy with your involvement in that matter.

For those unaware of what I was referring to when I mentioned CSX, please refer to this article and judge for yourselves how effective these "social justice warriors" were with regards to environmental racism.

Right, I'd forgotten that you're the one who loves pointing the finger at BCJN, vis-a-vis the CSX matter 4 years ago. That was a coalition effort, incidentally, involving BCJN allies in the South Bronx. I can understand your ignorance of the details.

Hang in there.

Hi, everyone!

Let's please not get too far off topic here. And let's stay focused on the subject, not each other.

Thanks!

Thanks for moderating, Michael.

Vis-a-vis angry, white men and Donald Trump, the following is breaking news in the New York Times -- today at the White House, Trump referred to Haiti and African nations as "shithole countries," saying he'd prefer immigrants from Norway. Late last year, he stated that "everyone in Haiti has AIDS" and that if welcomed to the U.S., Nigerians would never "return to their huts."

Mr. Trump isn't the first racist to occupy the Oval Office, by a long shot. What will we do to ensure that he's the last?

You continually misstate the facts about the CSX matter, Manny. Local groups approached Community Board 8 complaining about fuel trains idling across the street from apartment buildings. The idling trains were emitting fuel odors, making some residents nauseous, and they raised other concerns (like explosions near residential buildings). The result is that CSX moved trains further down the line to a less residential area. If the residents there experience the same problems, they will go through the same process.
