Bullies take more than just lunch money

Posted

Two perps graduated from lunch money to backpack stealing May 30, stealing more than just lunch money when they attacked a 17-year-old boy on his way home from school.

The teenager told police he was returning home just before 4 p.m., when the two men stopped him at the corner of West 231 Street and Riverdale Avenue, brandishing a knife.

The attackers ganged up on the victim, yelling at him to give them his stuff and his shoes. The duo then took off with his backpack, inside of which were reportedly Bose speakers and $60 cash. They also stole more than $600 worth of Gucci sneakers, according to police.

Officers arrested one of the teenagers, also 17, but are still seeking his accomplice, who was described as wearing all black clothing and sporting a short haircut.

Seeing double: Two DWI arrests

Early bird gets arrested. Or at least that’s one man’s story after he was caught in the early morning hours of June 4 driving his 2009 Hyundai Sonata while intoxicated.

“Caught” might not be the right word. He was actually involved in a car accident at the corner of Kimberly Place and Broadway that attracted police officers.

The man admitted to officers he was drinking and driving, according to a report, and agreed to be transported to a testing facility. His blood alcohol level was measured at 0.132, more than twice the legal limit.

He wasn’t the only one. Just the day before, police made another DWI arrest after observing a 29-year-old man drive his white BMW almost 30 mph over the speed limit. When they pulled him over, officers said his breath reeked of alcohol, and had the bloodshot, watery eyes to go with it.

Police took him to a testing facility to find his blood alcohol level even higher — 0.206.

Both men were arrested.

Biker has his chops stolen

A motorcycle rider parked his bike on Irwin Avenue, only to find it gone later.

The victim found a spot near 3419 Irwin Ave., on May 31 just around 8 p.m.

When he returned after midnight, he found his motorcycle gone.

While the rider might not have seen who took off on his bike, he’s hoping some security cameras in the parking lot will.

Police valued the 2009 black Honda at $2,300.

Perp swings for fences

A man lifted up the front gate of the Yao Garden restaurant on Sedgwick Avenue May 22, and to his pleasure, found the front door of the establishment unlocked.

The man then stole $200 from the cash register, according to police, while two accomplices guarded the door acting as lookouts.

The restaurant’s cameras caught them in the act, however, recording footage of the incident from both inside and outside the establishment.

The investigation continues.
