CARTER BURDEN GALLERY ANNOUNCES NEW EXHIBITIONS BY RE-EMERGING OLDER ARTISTS

Posted

Three new exhibitions featuring the unique artwork of re-emerging older artists will be on display June 28, 2018 – July 19, 2018 at the Carter Burden Gallery, located at 548 West 28th Street #534 in Manhattan. The Carter Burden Gallery showcases the vibrant, cutting-edge and transformative art that is the product of the unique cultural wealth possessed by older professional artists.

In the East Gallery will be the exhibition On the Way by Karen Bruckner and Judy Richardson. Presenting two monoprints, Bruckner combines printmaking, drawing and painting to create complex landscapes. Using her professional background in architecture, Bruckner creates her work by thinking in sequences, layers, shapes and colors, similar to architectural plans.

In her first exhibition with the Carter Burden Gallery, Richardson uses everyday materials such as wood, wire, metal and wax to create sculptures that take on a theatrical, prop-like character. She works by taking common objects apart and reconstructing them into something new. Her pieces are statements about political situations, emotional forces and human follies.

In the West Gallery will be the Nine by Nine exhibition that features nine works by nine mixed media artists who are members of the group nextactART. This group focuses on inspiring its members to keep creating work, building community and gaining recognition. The artists include Barbara Brier, Rena Diana, Ronnie Grill, Judy Kaplan, Madeline Farr, Madlyn Goldman, Patricia Miller, Stephanie Suskin, and Sheila Wolper. The vision of nextactART’s founders, Barbara Brier, Madeline Farr, and Stephanie Suskin, is to inspire later-in-life creatives to build community and realize the value of artistic expression.

In the On the Wall installation, Cassandra Jennings Hall presents mixed media, abstract paintings that are full of color and texture. Inspired by her love of color, Jennings Hall layers colors with white pigments to create texture and a vividly complex surface. “Layering creates mystery in the painting, as the viewer searches the depths of the work the prize is slowly revealed,” said Jennings Hall. Her work has been exhibited in museums, galleries, universities and corporations as well as in private and corporate art collections in the New York metropolitan area.
