Commuters might want to skip A this weekend

Posted

The A train is one of the faster ways out of this part of the Bronx. Unless it's something you were planning to take this weekend.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority will halt tain service between Inwood-207th Street and 168th Street beginning at 11:45 p.m. Friday, and continuing through just before the Monday morning rush. The interruption is so MTA can make communication improvements on that stretch of track.

That means the closest place to pick up the A from this part of the neighborhood is 168th Street, which should then run through Far Rockaway/Lefferts Boulevard in Queens.

The MTA will provide free shuttle buses between West 207th Street and West 168th Street, while other commuters can transfer to and from the 1 train at West 168th.

The free shuttles will run two routes. On Broadway, between West 168th and West 207th in Inwood, the bus stops at West 175th Street, West 181st Street, West 190th Street, and Dyckman Street.

On Fort Washington Avenue between West 168th and West 190th, the stops will be at West 175th and West 181st.

Uptown 1 trains also will be affected by weekend track work, but only in Manhattan, where uptown trains run express between Times Square and 72nd Street because of welded rail and track replacement.
