1. Police said a 28-year-old riding her bicycle in southern Van Cortlandt Park at 7 p.m. on May 4 was accosted by four robbers as she turned a corner near the intersection of Broadway and West 238th Street.

The first perpetrator jumped in front of her bike, blocking the path. As the victim halted her bicycle, another man in a black shirt pulled a knife on her and demanded her vehicle.

No injuries were reported, but the four robbers made off with the 28-year-old’s Pure Fix fixed-gear bicycle, valued at $400.

“We’re not physically in the park patrolling,” a spokeswoman for the 50th Precinct said when asked about the challenges of making Vannie safe. “We don’t have a car there.”

The case remains open to detectives.

2. Truck plundered

Police said unidentified robbers stole a truck containing a trove of expensive antique furniture on May 4.

The 59-year-old victim found his vehicle missing from the southeast corner of Broadway and West 255th Street at 5:30 p.m.

In addition to the white 2000 Dodge Ram, valued at $5,000, the victim lost a French Roll Top Desk dating back to the year 1890, worth $7,500; chaise longue seating worth $1,750; and a red-and-gold ottoman worth $1,600. The 59-year-old also lost an air conditioning unit worth $450, tools worth $300, moving blankets worth $200 and a hand truck worth $150.

The victim had parked the vehicle legally and made sure it was locked before leaving it at the intersection one month ago on April 4, police said. Police closed the case after placing the Ram on an interstate stolen vehicles registry.

3. Tires stolen, door smashed

A 50-year-old witness reported stolen tires and damage to the door of a black 2015 Honda Civic parked at the southwest corner of Independence Avenue and Kappock Street at 6:15 a.m. on Sunday, police said.

The 50-year-old told police that he saw the perpetrator “remove two wheels of the Honda Civic and break the door as well,” they said. After the larceny, the witness approached the Honda to snap photos of the damage. He was unable to provide a description of the perpetrator.

The Honda belongs to a 68-year-old woman who, like the witness, was unable to provide leads to detectives. But a community affairs spokeswoman for the 50th Precinct confirmed that “that location should have cameras.”

The petit larceny case remains open to detectives.

4. iPhone stolen

A 38-year-old woman double-parked her car on West 235th Street between Oxford and Cambridge avenues at 5:25 p.m. on May 4 to make a quick trip to a neighborhood store, police said.

When she returned, she discovered her iPhone 5 missing.

The woman reasoned that she must have dropped the phone, valued at $150, on the street. When she returned to her residence, she tracked the phone’s location using the “Find My iPhone” app from a personal computer.

“The last known location was in Manhattan,” a community affairs spokeswoman for the 50th Precinct said of the stolen device in the petit larceny case. “It’s open to detectives, and I don’t know which way the detectives will go with it.”

5. Mischief at Land & Sea

The 58-year-old owner of the Land & Sea Restaurant at 5535 Broadway told police that at 6:15 a.m. on May 4, customers eager enter his diner “began pushing on the door, causing the glass to shatter.”

“It’s usually a place people go after they go to clubs,” said a community affairs spokeswoman for the 50th Precinct. “It’s supposed to open at six. I guess he was late opening it.”

The perpetrator, or perpetrators, then ran away, she said. The criminal mischief case remains open to detectives.
