Engel thanks climate marchers

To the editor:

I want to thank all the people in my Congressional district who made the effort to join me and the over 200,000 individuals who came to put our planet first at the Washington Climate March on April 29.

I was very proud to be among the many thousands of environmentally conscious advocates who took to the streets in Washington, D.C., and I know many of my Riverdale friends were there too, fighting for clean energy jobs and to ensure climate change isn’t a forgotten issue in this new administration. 

We only have one planet, and it’s imperative that we do everything we can to preserve it, not just for future generations, but for ourselves. 

The United States is a global leader on the issue of climate change, which means we must remain actively committed to the Paris Climate Agreement we entered into two years ago.

As a top member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, which oversees many aspects of our nation’s environmental policy, I will continue to work with my colleagues to reduce our nation’s carbon footprint while promoting clean, renewable sources of energy.
