Godosky’s four TDs power Fieldston in season opener

Fieldston coach Gus Orenstein knew he had a potent offense on his hands entering the season. He just wasn’t exactly sure what he had on the defensive side of the ball. 

But against the Hopkins School in the Eagles’ season opener, he found out he just might be stacked on both sides of the ball this season.

Godosky rushed 15 times for 230 yards and a career-best four touchdowns, and the Eagles’ defense pitched a shutout as Fieldston opened its season with a 36-0 victory at home.

“Josh was unreal,” Ornstein said.

Cooper-Leary added a 12-yard touchdown pass to Ben Rosen-Cappellazzo to complete the scoring for Fieldston, which led 21-0 at the half.

“I thought we were going to be really good offensively and it would take us a little time to find ourselves defensively because we had a couple of new guys playing out there,” Ornstein said. “But we played incredible defensively from the get-go. We were aggressive, we were physical and I was really impressed how we opened the game defensively.”

 

Kennedy comes up short 

South Shore used a strong running game to roll up 297 yards on the ground as both quarterback Hezekiah Watkins and running back Bobby Obiora scored a pair of touchdowns in the Vikings’ 29-12 victory over Kennedy.

The Knights actually got on the board first when Josh Rivera fired a first-quarter touchdown pass to wideout Idrissa Nikiema for a 6-0 advantage. But South Shore came storming back behind Watkins and Obiora to take a 23-6 halftime lead. 

The Knights’ defense stiffened in the second half yielding just one score, but the Vikings’ defense held Kennedy in check. 

Rivera went 12-for-24 for 198 yards and two touchdowns, both going to Nikiema, who had two catches for 75 yards. Andrew Thomas also had four receptions for 68 yards for the Knights, while Jeremy Hernandez and Enrique Almanzar each had an interception and Isiah Ratcliff added a sack for the Knights’ defense.
