Keep up good work, Sen. Klein

Power politics showed its ugly head recently when a handful of far-left wing liberals from as far away as Albany came to protest Sen. Jeffrey Klein and the Independent Democratic Conference he leads.

The IDC is a group of eight senators who use their independence to work through the partisan politics of Albany to get legislation passed for the constituents they represent. True Democrats all, they have the ability and fortitude to meet with Republicans and work in a bipartisan way to bring about meaningful legislation.

We need more like them. They put people before politics.

The protest proved several things. Politics is not about people, but about power. Our nation is divided in many ways by race, religion and ideology, all fueled by party politics to wrest power from one another.

The agitators who came to protest the senator did not care about his efforts on behalf of his constituents, but were against the power he has in Albany. He has it, they want it. It’s that simple.

And most important, the large group who came together to support Sen. Klein was impressive, unlike the group of white left-win zealots who were protesting. His supporters included black white, Hispanic, Jews, Catholics and Muslims — all coming together to support the man who has fought for them his entire political career.

Let that be a lesson to all politicians. Most intelligent voters will support those elected officials who work hard for their interests, regardless of race, religion or party affiliation.

We don’t always have to agree, but we don’t always have to disagree. When that happens, the people suffer.

Sen. Klein, continue to do the work we sent you to Albany to do, for you have our full support.
