Keys, chain lifted in Sedgwick robbery

Posted

A man walking down Sedgwick Avenue last week found his commute to be a little lighter all of a sudden — but not in a good way.

Police say two men attacked the pedestrian near the 3800 block of Sedgwick Avenue on Aug. 21, relieving him of his chain and keys. The victim said his assailants came out of nowhere, throwing him to the ground and punching him in the face.

The men were said to be between 5-foot-10 and 5-foot-11. Both the chain and keys were valued at $40 by police, who are still investigating.

Bottle smashed in random assault

Up in the sky, It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s a glass bottle from an unknown assailant!

At least that’s what the victim of a seemingly random assault might have said after being blindsided last week.

The 21-year-old victim was standing near Fenwicks Bar & Grill on the 400 block of West 238th Street just before 5 a.m., on Aug. 26, when he was hit in the head by a glass bottle. Who threw it and where that person came from, the victim couldn’t tell police.

Suffice it to say, it’s unclear where the bottle smasher ran off to, but he or she left the victim with lacerations to the head.

Police are still investigating.

An early grand opening

Burglars tried to score by breaking into a restaurant on Riverdale Avenue that hasn’t even opened yet.

Police said someone broke into a coffee shop under construction on the 3700 block of Riverdale Avenue through the bathroom. That became the entryway of choice for the would-be robbers, since the bathroom was under construction, and easier to break into instead of the front lock, which apparently resisted the perps.

Their ingenuity and persistence aside, it was all for naught, police said, because the burglars left empty-handed.

One thing they did pick up, however, was an ongoing investigation by police.
