Let's make health care work right

Your fine editorial about the New York Health Plan is important not only for your Riverdale readers, but for all voters in New York State.

The plan, which would extend health care to all New York residents, is only one vote short of passage in the senate, and this should be a spur to voters to press their representatives in the Assembly and senate to bring the health bill up for action and passage.

Of course, this would mean bringing pressure to bear on the so-called “Independent Democrats,” in particular on Sen. Jeff Klein, to join in the fight with something more than words.

It also would require pressure on Gov. Andrew Cuomo to advocate for this remarkable piece of legislation. On this, as on so much else, his silence continues to put his own political ambitions ahead of principle.
